Scoring rules and epistemic compromise
Formal models of epistemic compromise have several fundamental applications. Disagreeing agents may construct a compromise of their opinions to guide their collective action, to give a collective opinion to a third party, or to determine how they should update their individual credences. Recent literature on disagreement has focused on certain questions about epistemic compromise: when you find...
متن کاملCompromising Contextual Constraints and Cartographic Rules: Application to Sustainable Maps
The necessary adaptation of mapping applications generates new constraints which should be considered in addition to the traditional cartographic rules used to design maps. Particularly, colors used in the legend could be optimized regarding those constraints. A big stake of such optimization is to preserve the semiotic quality of maps. Therefore, we propose a quantification of the cartographic...

What prevents majorities from extracting surplus from minorities in legislatures? We study an infinite horizon game where a legislative body votes to determine distributive policy each period. Proposals accepted by a simple majority are implemented, otherwise the status quo allocation prevails. We construct symmetric Markov perfect equilibria that exhibit compromise in the following sense: if t...

Two agents have to choose one of three alternatives. Their ordinal rankings of these alternatives are commonly known among them. The rankings are diametrically opposed to each other. Ex-ante efficiency requires that they reach a compromise, that is choose the alternative which they both rank second, if and only if the sum of their von Neumann Morgenstern utilities from this alternative exceeds ...
